Wallace Collection A9 copy

This piece is based on a standard (neck defence) from Wallace Collection, known as the A9. It is made from mild steel wire rings, all wedge riveted, with an edging of brass rings, one row of which are riveted and the other row punched solids. The item took approximately 650 hours to make, with all of the rings being handmade.

De Thorpe effigy aventail

This piece is based on the effigy of Sir Edmund de Thorpe (d. 1418) in All Saints Church, Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk. The client wanted an aventail that matched the authentic look of the helm (made by Fred Ryall of Ryall Armouries) and commissioned me to produce a piece based on the design shown on the effigy.

Samples of rings were produced for the client to select the size and style preferred and the aventail was made to fit the helm, with the design based on that shown on the effigy.

13th century style coif

This piece is currently a work in progress. It is based on 13^th century style coifs, shown in effigies such as that of William Marshall. The coif is made using alternating rows of punched solid rings (supplied by the client) and handmade riveted rings. The rings are wedge riveted, and the wire retains a round profile as seen in original 13th century mail. The rings themselves are a slightly oval shape rather than perfectly round.
