World Development SRH Projects Supported

Afya Research is a network of primary care clinics serving one of the most underserved regions in Western Kenya. Their model is built for long-term sustainability, combining subsidised clinic revenue with income from other businesses they operate.

With support from The Waterloo Foundation, Afya Research has developed a scalable approach to expand access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, especially contraception, for women and girls.

Our shared goal:

  • Provide 36,000 women each year with a full year of contraception protection
  • Reach 7,500 girls and young women under age 20
  • Embed SRH services into Afya’s self-sustaining business model, ensuring lasting impact beyond donor support

This partnership is helping transform access to reproductive healthcare in Western Kenya, empowering women, improving health outcomes, and building a model that lasts.

MSI Reproductive Choices believes everyone should have the freedom to make decisions about their body, life, and future. Every day, they support tens of thousands of women and girls with life-changing reproductive health services, reaching even the most remote and underserved communities.

Since 2019, MSI has been in partnership with The Waterloo Foundation, which has been pivotal in expanding access to contraception and safe abortion care across Africa and Asia.

  • The support has enabled MSI to:
  • Deliver vital services to women and girls in Ethiopia and Sierra Leone
  • Pilot sustainable, community-based models in urban and peri-urban Malawi
  • Innovate new ways to extend a continuum of care, ensuring women and girls are never more than a phone call away from safe, trusted support

TWF’s trust-based funding, strategic insight, and unwavering commitment to global sexual and reproductive health and rights have been catalytic. The partnership has empowered bold experimentation, assisted with scaling impactful solutions, and helped place dignity, safety, and choice at the centre of care.

Combining the strengths of the non-profit and commercial sectors, MSI operates as a social business with a bold commitment to reproductive rights. With over 200 million people supported to date, and millions more reached each year, their work, amplified by partners like TWF,  MSI continues to transform lives, communities, and generations.
