At the Foundation, we manage a strategically diversified portfolio that reflects our dual commitment to financial stewardship and our philanthropic mission. Overseen by our Board of Trustees and guided by expert Investment Managers, our approach ensures that all capital allocations align with our values, delivering strong financial returns alongside measurable social and environmental impact.
Investment Policy
We provide our Investment Managers with a detailed ethical investment policy to ensure consistency with our principles. As proud signatories to Divest-Invest, we do not hold investments in companies primarily engaged in fossil fuel exploration or extraction.
Beyond traditional markets, we’re actively embracing innovative and impactful investment opportunities. These include microfinance funds, renewable energy initiatives, private-market ventures, and microloans supporting social enterprises, extending the reach of our capital where it can do the most good. Thematic
Triodos Microfinance – providing support to help develop an inclusive financial sector in developing countries, to extend access to financial services.
Root Capital – loan support to assist the growth of small and medium enterprises in the agricultural sector in Africa.
Actis Africa Real Estate – equity support to an emerging markets private equity firm, which has a focus on the growing markets in Africa to support the development of retail and office developments.
African Foresight Group is dedicated to unlocking African talent for African businesses, transcending national borders to build a stronger, connected continent. With support from TWF, they’ve expanded their post-school business education platform, AHEAD, which equips young professionals with the tools and knowledge to thrive in the workforce. Graduates of the AHEAD program are now earning more than twice their previous income, demonstrating the platform’s power to drive upward mobility and economic empowerment.

Impact
Thrive Renewables – equity support to provide equity financing for small to medium-scale renewable energy projects, including wind farms and hydro-electric schemes.
Aquaspark – equity support to an investment fund focused on providing innovative, novel solutions to some of aquaculture’s biggest challenges. Investing in companies aiming to improve the fish farming industry’s environmental and social impact.
Rising Academies is a certified B Corp and one of our direct equity investments, made to support their continued growth and impact. As a network of schools operating across several African countries, Rising Academies serves over 270,000 students, with 90% of families living below the global poverty line. Their commitment to delivering high-quality education is backed by evidence – seven randomised control trials have shown that students in Rising Academies schools learn, on average, 2.4 times faster each year than their peers in comparable schools.

Investing
Purple Shoots is a not-for-profit microfinance organisation providing small business loans at fair rates. We provided a long-term, interest-free loan to fund a programme designed to support responsible lending and empower individuals to start or grow sustainable businesses across Wales.

Tellmi is a UK-based social enterprise tackling the youth mental health crisis and reducing health inequalities through an innovative digital platform. We acquired a direct equity stake through a funding round aimed at enabling Tellmi to scale and secure larger, high-impact contracts.
Alacrity Foundation – seed capital funding for graduate entrepreneurship training programmes. Based in Newport, the programme is working with promising young engineering and business graduates to build successful technology companies.
Jackfruit Finance is dedicated to delivering fair and impactful financial solutions to low- and middle-income private schools in Kenya. We provided Jackfruit funding to enable them to offer both operational and capital loans, for everything from school expansions and infrastructure improvements to purchasing school buses. They are currently supporting over 504 schools, providing equitable access to the capital these institutions need to grow and thrive.
