Tropical Rainforests Strategic Projects Supported

Fern

Fern campaigns for policies and practices in Europe that focus on forests and forest peoples’ rights and deliver economic, environmental and social justice globally. They build partnerships across Europe and in the Global South to increase understanding of, and access to, European policy making.

The Waterloo Foundation is supporting Fern on their long-term strategies to strengthen European and international forest governance, holding countries and companies to account for their impact on forests and people, and supporting national civil society and forest peoples to advocate for good forest governance.

Forest Peoples Programme

Forest Peoples Programme works in 18 countries in the tropical forest belt, supporting Indigenous Peoples and forest peoples to secure their land rights, defend their forest territories, and seek remedy for violations of their rights. Forest Peoples Programme works at local, national and global levels to ensure that forest peoples shape their own futures, including through influencing national and international law and policy.

The Waterloo Foundation is supporting Forest Peoples Programme’s work on environmental governance in forests around the world, as well as their work to influence state and business actors to respect and protect human rights.

Canopy

Canopy is a solutions-driven NGO dedicated to protecting forests, climate, and species while advancing community rights by leveraging the purchasing influence of the global marketplace. Its model of change is rooted in building transformational partnerships with more than 980 of the world’s largest brands – including Amazon, Walmart, and H&M – to shift unsustainable supply chains and mainstream sustainable alternatives to forest-risk paper, packaging, and textile products.

Canopy has been a long-standing partner of The Waterloo Foundation, working to redirect global producers of forest-based fabrics away from sourcing from Ancient and Endangered Forests and to harness market power in advancing large-scale conservation solutions in Indonesia.
